Bridesmaids' necklace
Ms O. was preparing for an overseas wedding which would be held on a beach. She wanted the wedding to reflect the surroundings with a "seaside" theme, and was planning her three bridesmaids' outfits. She wanted me to come up with a necklace design and make it for each of her bridesmaids, so they could wear them on the day and keep them as a thank you gift and memento after the event.
I had explored a few quite different designs in advance of a meeting with Ms O., since this was a very wide brief, but it really helped to meet with her to talk through her thoughts and explain some possibilities. We decided that I should make a fine silver replica seashell, moulded from a real shell and then finished by hand, then hang it as a pendant enclosing a pink pearl that could dangle like the clapper of a bell, to add a sense of delicate movement to the necklace and create a focal point.
