Heat-textured gemstone earrings
Heat-textured gemstone earrings
I saw out the silver shapes in these sterling and gemstone earrings from a larger strip and heat them slowly with a blowtorch until the surface of the silver crumples and wrinkles, just before it melts. It’s fascinating seeing the metal slowly deform and move under the intense heat. I then add tiny rings to hang the shapes and brush, oxidise and finish them by hand, before attaching gorgeous semi-precious gemstones and handmade ear wires. I love the slightly visceral effect of the heated metal, which only adds to the authenticity of their beauty.
These earrings are currently available in amber, carnelian (orange), chrysoprase (cloudy green with dark brown) and lapis lazuli (deep blue with flecks). Also see my other heat textured jewellery for citrine and labradorite versions, which I’ve listed separately. If not in stock, I can make them to order for you - they’ll normally be ready in around 2 weeks, but let me know if you need them quicker and I can usually fast-track them for you.
